What You Eat Matters focuses on three main areas- health, animal welfare and the environment. With opinions from experts, personal stories, facts and statistics, the documentary aims to demonstrate how animal product consumption is overall hugely detrimental and if the current trend continues, it will have disastrous consequences for the planet- consequences we already experience.

Why Is H.O.P.E. What You Eat Matters A Vegan Documentary?
H.O.P.E. is very much a classic vegan documentary. Classic in a sense that its subject matter concerns the main problems associated with eating animal products and the benefits of not doing so.
In many ways it acts as a summary of the content of other documentaries, with added personal stories from those who have benefited health wise from switching to a plant-based diet and stories from individuals formerly employed in the animal agriculture business. Take the 68 year-old with heart disease who ignored medical advice and regained his health with the aid of a whole foods, plant-based diet. Or the former butcher who recalls the piercing screams of dying pigs which he compared to the cries of children.
The film points out the illogical ways in which humans act, often in the name of profit. The volume of crops we feed to animals could easily support the global population, yet according to the documentary, every 6 seconds a child dies of malnutrition. And the majority who are vehemently opposed to animal testing yet support the meat and dairy industries where suffering is at its greatest.
It can often feel like our small benevolent actions are futile, especially in the face of corporate money- money that’s spent on creating and promoting products or lifestyles that are ultimately harmful. Watching footage of cattle in tether-stalls with the space to move just one step forwards or backwards or trees hundreds of years old being cut down in mere minutes can leave us with a huge sense of despair and frustration. But the growth of veganism is the result of the small choices people have made (and then business subsequently realising there is money in it…).
What you eat does matter.
